Building Acoustics
Building Acoustics is a specialist and important arm of acoustic consultancy. Confidence in reading and interpreting plans and experience of practical situations is important when specifying and assessing structural elements to control noise, reverberation and vibration in internal spaces within residential, commercial and industrial premises.
dBC has extensive knowledge of Building Regulations 2010 Part E which outlines the acoustic requirements for residential developments. Part E states the minimal sound insulation requirements for separating and internal walls and floors in new build properties, homes formed by a material change of use and reverberation control in common areas. The Regulations outline the sound testing requirements and methodology to prove compliance.
dBC will review architectural plans for new build and conversion projects to assess wall, floor, ceiling, columns, common areas, reverberation time and steel encasement design, junction details and alternative designs to give recommendations where designs do not meet Building Regulations.
dBC uses various practical guidance documents to assist with Building Acoustics reports such as Building Bulletin 93 Acoustic Design of Schools, Health Technical Memorandum 08-01: Acoustics, BS 8233:2014 Guidance on sound insulation and noise reduction for buildings, Robust Details 2023 Handbook and British Gypsum White Book.
Whether your project is a multi-dwelling development, single dwelling in the back garden, conversion of industrial building, barn or office, creation of a confidential office meeting room, installation of a gym into commercial space, a new hospital, medical centre or school, noisy office or community hall dBC has the experience and knowledge to assess and find the correct building acoustics solutions.
